Our Fuel Drain Services
Full details on every service we offer — what happens, what's included, and exactly what to do (and not do).
Important Notice
If you realise you have put the wrong fuel in your car, DO NOT PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. Even turning to 'accessories' primes the fuel pump and circulates contaminated fuel into the engine. Call us immediately — do not attempt to move the vehicle.
Petrol in Diesel
Accidentally putting petrol into a diesel engine is by far the most common misfuel in the UK, accounting for over 100,000 incidents annually. Diesel fuel is an oil-based product that lubricates the high-pressure fuel pump. When petrol enters the system, it strips this lubrication — causing metal-on-metal grinding that rapidly destroys the pump, injectors, and common rail.
The level of damage depends almost entirely on one thing: whether you started the engine. Even a brief crank circulates contaminated fuel and can multiply repair costs dramatically. Our advice is simple — stop immediately, do not start the car, and call us.

- close Do NOT try to drain it yourself
- close Do NOT ignore it hoping it will be fine
Diesel in Petrol
Putting diesel into a petrol engine is less common, largely because diesel pump nozzles are usually wider than petrol filler necks, making it a tighter fit. However, it happens — especially in hire cars or unfamiliar vehicles. Diesel is a thick, oily product. In a petrol engine it coats spark plugs with a sooty residue, clogs fuel injectors, and prevents proper ignition.
If diesel was added and the engine was not started, the tank simply needs draining. If it was started, the spark plugs may need cleaning or replacing, and the injectors will require thorough flushing. Either way, we handle it all at your location.

Fuel Drain Service
Our core Fuel Drain Service is the physical process of extracting contaminated or mixed fuel from your vehicle's tank and fuel system. We use professional, high-flow suction pumps with non-sparking technology, making the process completely safe to perform at petrol station forecourts, which are typically classified as hazardous areas.
Unlike backstreet "mechanics" who may use garden-variety siphon tubes, our equipment extracts to 99%+ fuel removal efficiency — meaning no residual contaminated mix is left behind to cause running issues later.

Emergency Wrong Fuel
When you misfuel on a motorway hard shoulder, an A-road, a busy dual carriageway, or in the dark at an isolated location — you need more than a fuel drain. You need priority dispatch and a team experienced in safely operating in high-risk roadside environments.
Our emergency response technicians are CSCS-certified for roadside working. They carry full traffic management equipment, high-visibility PPE, and priority dispatch status. We treat your situation as an emergency and get units moving immediately upon your call.

Wrong Fuel Near Me
We operate a network of mobile technicians spread across England, Wales, and Scotland — meaning wherever you are, there's a unit near you. Whether you're in Central London, rural Yorkshire, or the Scottish Highlands, we dispatch from the closest available technician the moment you call.
Our dispatch system is GPS-tracked and real-time, so you'll always get an accurate ETA. We don't run a call centre that passes you to sub-contractors — we dispatch our own certified staff directly to you.

Petrol-in-Diesel Symptoms
Not sure if you've accidentally put petrol in your diesel? Here are the definitive warning signs to look for. If you recognise any of these — especially after a recent fill-up — stop the vehicle immediately.
Engine Knocking / Rattling
Petrol destroys diesel pump lubrication, creating metal grinding sounds from the engine bay.
Excessive Smoke
White or black smoke from the exhaust as petrol fails to combust properly in a diesel system.
Sudden Loss of Power
The engine misfires and the car struggles to accelerate, especially under load.
Warning Lights
Engine management light, fuel system warning, or EPC light may illuminate on the dash.
Engine Cuts Out
In severe cases, the engine will stall and refuse to restart as fuel contamination becomes critical.
thumb_up Do This
- check Pull over to a safe location immediately
- check Switch the engine off
- check Call us — even if you're not 100% sure
- check We will diagnose and advise on site
thumb_down Don't Do This
- close Do NOT keep driving if the engine sounds wrong
- close Do NOT restart the engine if it stalls
- close Do NOT visit a mechanic before calling us — we may be cheaper and faster
Diesel-in-Petrol Symptoms
Diesel in a petrol engine produces very distinctive symptoms. Diesel's heavy, oily consistency coats spark plugs and disrupts the fine spray pattern of petrol injectors. Here's what to watch for:
Thick Black Exhaust Smoke
The most obvious sign. Diesel combusts poorly in a petrol engine, producing black sooty exhaust.
Engine Stuttering / Misfires
Fouled spark plugs and oiled injectors cause the engine to misfire, hesitate, and lose rhythm.
Won't Start
If diesel has coated all spark plugs, the engine may simply refuse to fire at all.
Very Poor Performance
Even if it runs, acceleration will feel sluggish and the engine will feel rough under any load.
thumb_up Do This
- check Turn the engine off immediately
- check Do not attempt a restart
- check Call us for a same-day drain
thumb_down Don't Do This
- close Do NOT keep cranking the engine trying to start it
- close Do NOT drive on — further running bakes diesel onto plugs
- close Do NOT assume it will clear itself
Mobile Fuel Drain
Our Mobile Fuel Drain service is our standard delivery model — everything comes to you. There is no need to arrange a tow truck, no need to wait at a garage, and no need to worry about getting your vehicle somewhere safely on contaminated fuel.
Our vans are purpose-built for mobile fuel drain operations. They carry professional extraction equipment, waste containers, replacement filters, correct fuel for re-priming, and all safety PPE required for forecourt and roadside working.

Wrong Fuel — Van
Commercial vans are some of the most commonly misfueled vehicles in the UK. Couriers, tradespeople, and fleet operators often use multiple vehicles and fuel them in a rush. A Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, Vauxhall Vivaro, Volkswagen Crafter, or any other commercial van is fully within our capabilities.
We understand that a van off the road means lost earnings and missed deliveries. That's why we prioritise van recoveries and provide ETA commitments when you call — so you can manage your schedule around our arrival.

thumb_down Don't Do This
- close Do NOT start the engine under any circumstances
- close Do NOT attempt to complete the delivery run
- close Do NOT send the van to a main dealer — we are faster and cheaper
Wrong Fuel — HGV
HGVs carry significantly larger fuel tanks than cars or vans — often 300–700 litres of diesel — and misfueling one creates a major operational problem. Whether it's a rigid lorry, artic truck, tipper, or specialist vehicle, our heavy-duty extraction equipment handles large-volume drains efficiently.
We work directly with haulage companies, logistics firms, and owner-operators across the UK. Our technicians are trained in the specific fuel systems used in DAF, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes Actros, and other major HGV platforms. We provide priority callout times and invoice-based billing for fleet operators.
